Strong forces unite around Ukraine
Avfall Sverige was one of over 700 organizations and companies that in mid-November participated in ReBuild Ukraine – a conference and exhibition in Warsaw that brings together actors working on the reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure, energy systems and sustainable social solutions.
During the first day of the conference, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa participated, inaugurating the Swedish pavilion and emphasizing Sweden’s long-term commitment to Ukraine’s recovery and green transition.
During the two days that the conference was running, Avfall Sverige had the opportunity to contribute to two insightful panel discussions. Together with Salar International, a discussion was arranged in the EU Commission pavilion on the theme “Building Sustainable Waste Systems for a Resilient Ukraine”, in which Sweco and the Swedish Energy Agency also participated. In the Swedish pavilion, Avfall Sverige also participated in a panel discussion on “Green City Planning” together with Sweco, the Swedish Energy Agency, Stockholm University, IVL and the Stockholm Environment Institute. During that conversation, opportunities but also challenges of operating in Ukraine were discussed.
– Through discussions and conversations, we had the opportunity to delve into and contribute to how sustainable and resilient waste systems can be designed, as well as how green urban development can be integrated into Ukraine's reconstruction, says Hedvig Petersson, International Project Coordinator at Avfall Sverige. We met several committed actors who shared their perspectives on the importance of cooperation, innovation and long-term commitment to promoting the country's development.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants and organizers for constructive conversations, valuable insights and a strong joint commitment to a green and sustainable reconstruction of Ukraine. Thanks also to Forever Sustainable, Business Sweden, Ny Teknik and the Swedish Energy Agency who were behind the arrangement of the Swedish pavilion.
